The winners of the "Augšup!" social scholarship
To support talented students of Riga Technical University (RTU), RTU Development Foundation in cooperation with RTU Students' Parliament organised a charity campaign "Augšup!". Thanks to donations on the platform ziedo.rtu.lv, the necessary funds were raised to award scholarships to three first-year RTU students. The scholarship winners are grateful for this support, stressing that it motivates them to achieve higher results in their studies. "Augšup!" scholarship has also received wider recognition, winning the Latvian Students' Association's annual award in the nomination "Contribution of the Year to Improving Social Life".
The scholarship winners are three first-year RTU students who proved their high motivation, excellent grades and the need for material support to continue their studies successfully. Anastasija Svirska is studying "Medical Engineering and Physics" at RTU Faculty of Civil Engineering and Mechanical Engineering, Katrīna Kaļva is studying "Civil Engineering" at RTU, while Ikars Arkādijs Bumblis is studying "Computer Systems" at RTU Faculty of Computer Science, Information Technology and Energy. All three students excelled not only with excellent grades, but also with determination to improve their knowledge and skills.
"This support allows me to work less and study more. It is a very good feeling to have someone helping you, it makes you want to achieve more," says scholarship winner I. A. Bumblis. "I am now particularly motivated to further develop my knowledge in the field of computer engineering. Receiving this kind of support makes me want to do something good!"
Although the RTU Development Foundation has traditionally raised funds for social scholarships for students, the "Augšup!" is a new concept designed to support talented and motivated students whose families are facing financial challenges. Seeing the wide public response, charity campaigns will continue to be organised to provide "Augšup!" with the aim of awarding it to even more students. Up! has also received wider recognition - the RTU Development Foundation has received the Latvian Students' Association's annual award in the nomination "Contribution of the Year to Improving Social Life". This award shows the importance of supporting talented students in order to promote positive change. It is especially appreciated by the students themselves, as the scholarship not only provides an opportunity for financial support, but also encourages them to help others.
"I am studying medicine and my future goal is to help society. Winning this scholarship means a lot to me. It provides financial support, which gives me a sense of security. It will definitely help me to focus even more on my study goals. I feel supported so that I can support those who want to be healthy in the future," says Ms Svirska, who is even more motivated after winning the scholarship.
The charity campaign "Augšup!" took place at the end of 2024, and during the campaign, EUR 3 241 was donated to the scholarships on ziedo.rtu.lv, 57 donations were made in total. The amount raised provides three students with scholarships of €200 for the entire spring semester, for a total of €1000 each. The remaining amount will be used for next year's "Augšup!" funding.
